The Ekiden is a road racing format straight from Japan which originally competed as a team over a distance of 508 km from Kyoto to Tokyo. It appeared for the first time in France during the 1992 championships and is run today over the marathon distance of 42,195 km with 6 relay runners per team.
In this format, Ekiden Grenoble is preparing to celebrate its 12 th edition on Sunday October 18, 2020 , at the Grenoble Peninsula, a district north of the city of Grenoble, which hosts many scientific centers. Nearly 5,000 runners were expected on the starting line of the Ekiden Grenoble to spend a sporty and pleasant moment with friends, family or colleagues.
In addition to the main event, children's races as well as a village of exhibitors and activities will be organized so that everyone can take part in the celebration!
Can you beat the record for the 2h 12 minute and 50 second event established in 2011 ? On your marks !
The route of the Ekiden Grenoble is a 5 km loop in the Polygone Scientifique of Grenoble with a start and a relay area near the Place Nelson Mandela.
The first runner starts for a 5 km loop before handing over to the second runner on his team who will make two loops for a total of 10 km. The third runner will make a 5 km loop while the fourth will make two. The fifth runner of the team will then start for a penultimate 5 km loop and will hand over to the sixth and last runner of the team who will make a 5 km loop and another 2.195 km loop in order to arrive 42.195 km from the event.
Races for children between 7 and 17 years old will also be planned, with courses between 400 and 1,500 meters depending on the age categories.
