Have you ever thought about what it would be like to start a triathlon jumping into the fjords from a ferry? Well, in the Norseman Xtreme it is possible. This may not be the most peculiar feature of this triathlon, but it is at least impressive to see dozens of triathletes at dawn, jumping into the cold of the Norwegian fjords from a ferry for the transport of cars.

Just because it takes place in August does not mean that the weather is more favorable for the participants. The icy waters of the fjords will welcome the participants of this test at 5 in the morning, and the cold will accompany them for almost 4 kilometers swimming through the Hardangerfjord fjord.

Norseman and his unusual career start

"Incredible", "wonderful" or "unrepeatable" are some of the adjectives used by the Norseman Xtreme triathletes to describe the cycling event. The second stage of this extreme triathlon takes us through the Norwegian mountains where we will reach an elevation of up to 1200 meters. During the 180 kilometers of pedaling, participants will have time to enjoy the wonders of Norwegian nature in complete solitude, in an environment inhabited only by wild animals.

Leaving the bicycle behind, the athletes prepare to cover the 42 kilometers of the marathon race, where 25 km will be through flat territory, giving the participants a little “rest”. The remaining distance will be done by climbing the Gaustatoppen mountain until we reach the top, where we will find the goal, at an altitude of 1880 meters. However, due to the remote location, only the first 160 athletes will be able to complete the last 4.7 kilometers of ascent to the finish.

Fourteen years ago, the first Isklar Norseman Xtreme triathlon created its own category in international triathlon. Norseman has remained true to its core ever since, and continues to attract triathletes from around the world to the ultimate test of endurance, agility, sportsmanship and friendly competition through some of Norway's most amazing landscapes.

Norseman is like going back to the roots of triathlon. Events like this are the reason why triathlon is so big today.

This means that the attendees will have the opportunity to be accompanied by their family and friends if they wish, to form their support team, and it will be these who will help them throughout the journey to the goal, which is located in the top of the mountain.

This is the Norseman map, signaling the different tests
It may sound complicated for some, but perhaps that is the greatest beauty of the Norseman Xtreme, being able to live one of the most impressive and demanding triathlons in the world surrounded by your loved ones, who will accompany, support and encourage you throughout the whole race. Finishing the Norseman, such a demanding test, and doing it together with the people you love the most is probably the most important added value for all the participants.
