Established in 1986, the Lisbon Marathon is considered to be one of the most beautiful marathons in Europe and even the world. This year's edition is scheduled to take place on Sunday October 11th 2020, in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon. Over 15,000 runners are expected to take part in this 35th edition of the Lisbon Marathon, linking the coastal town of Cascais to Lisbon by the coastal road and the Vasco do Gama bridge running along the ocean and rivers of Lisbon.

The Lisbon Marathon is also the host of two shorter, more accessible distances to cater to all levels of runners:

  • The Half Marathon that starts at the Vasco do Gama bridge and and runs along the second half of the Marathon
  • The Mini Marathon, an extremely popular 8.5 km race with breath-taking scenery that shares the Half Marathon's start

Besides the exciting races proposed by the organizers, an event village will also pop up in the Parque das Nações on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th and a Pasta Party dinner the day before the race to fill up on carbs before the big day.

So choose the race that best suits your abilities and see you on the starting line!

The 2020 Lisbon Marathon is host of three courses to cater to the different abilities of its participants:

  • Lisbon Marathon

The main course of this event, the Lisbon Marathon starts in the small coastal town of Cascais and zips along the coastal road past Carcavelos beach, through the Oeiras gardens and on the banks of the Tagus river before reaching the finish line in Praça do Comercio. Runners of this mythical distance can expect supply points roughly every 2.5 to 5 km along the course that will be giving out water, sports drinks, fruits and energy gels.

  • Lisbon Half Marathon

The most popular race of the event with almost 18,000 people expected on the start line of this 21 km course. Starting on the breath-taking Vasco do Gama bridge, the runners then head towards the Praça do Comercio for a finish line shared with the Marathon's.

  • Lisbon Mini Marathon

The most accessible race of the event, the Mini Marathon is a 8.5 km course that shares the same start line as the Lisbon Half Marathon and finishes in the Parque das Nações. Participants can choose to walk or run the course while taking in the sights Lisbon has to offer.
