On your marks for the 17th edition of the Porto Marathon which will be running on Sunday November 8th, 2020 in the beautiful city of Oporto, in northern Portugal. The tried and tested 42-kilometer course through the city’s historical center and along the Douro river attracts 15,000 runners annually from all over Portugal and Europe. Many world-class athletes such as Deso Gelmisa, Victor Kiplimo or Robert Chemonges are expected to fight for the win of this fabulous road race that’s prone to performance.

And in order to attract runners of all levels and aspirations, the Porto Marathon also organizes two smaller, more accessible races in form of a 15-kilometer Family Race and a 6-kilometer Mini Marathon. A Fado concert is also planned, along with an event village showcasing the latest running gear and plenty of animations to ensure everyone has an amazing time.

Make the trip to Porto this fall and come sample some of the world-famous wines and take in the breath-taking sights while participating in a fun, family-friendly running event! See you on November 8th!

The Porto Marathon hosts three races in total:

  • Porto Marathon

The Porto Marathon is a 42.195 kilometer race through the heart of Porto, along its coasts and Douro river. The start is given in front of the Queimódromo, with racers bolting off around the Parque da Cidade do Porto before heading up to Matosinhos and the Leixões harbor. The course will then head south along the coast, past the Castelo da Foz and the iconic Ponte da Arrábida and finally across the Douro River and into the natural reserve of the Douro estuary. This will mark the halfway point of the race and the signal to cross the Douro again using the Ponte Luis I. After a short incursion east, racers will head back north, first along the Douro river and then the coastline to cross the finish line located right after the Castelo do Queijo, in the Queimódromo.

There will be supply points along the course, every 5 kilometer.

  • Family Race

A shorter, more accessible and family-friendly race that starts in front of the Queimódromo just like the other races but loops around the Parque da Cidade do Porto and heads north past the Anemona and into Matosinhos before finishing in the Queimódromo.

  • Mini Marathon

A fun and very accessible 6-kilometer race starting and finishing in the Queimódromo, looping around the Parque da Cidade do Porto and Avenida da Boavista.
